This week Houston-based Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. and Tulsa, OK-based Williams Partners LP announced plans to carry natural gas from Pennsylvania’s Marcellus Shale to the New York and New England markets via a new, large-diameter pipeline.
The 120-mile Constitution Pipeline would transport gas from the heart of Cabot’s Marcellus Shale acreage in Susquehanna County to the Iroquois and Tennessee pipelines in southern New York state.
The pipeline requires federal regulatory approval. The companies set a tentative date of March 2015 for the pipeline to go into service.
This is a bold, but much needed step for our industry. With the future of the Keystone XL pipeline still hinging on the whim of our government, it’s up to our own industry’s leaders to make the decisions that will help America to become energy independent.
