Abstract:

Oil and gas people often think that they can bring a lot to the geothermal industry, and even more so in layoff times! Geothermal people seldom think that they can bring something to the oil & gas industry. Why is that? There are good and bad reasons, but maybe also lots of misunderstandings and preconceived ideas.

The two industries look like twins because they both rely on extracting something from the ground by drilling. However, these twin industries, both relying on subsurface expertise, have also a lot of dissimilarities. It is only by understanding these differences, technical and financial that collaboration between the two sectors can lead to fruitful results, that should benefit both sectors.
