HOUSTON, TEXAS – September 12, 2012: MicroSeismic, Inc. (MicroSeismic) announced today Peter Duncan, PhD, Founder and CEO, has been invited to co-chair the monitoring session of the SPE/SEG Injection Induced Seismicity Workshop in Colorado, September 12-14, 2012. Dr. Duncan, along with co-chair Leo Eisner, will oversee the technical session presentations on Monitoring Induced Seismicity.
MicroSeismic’s participation in the event is especially relevant this year as the company now has developed their seismicity monitoring services along with their BuriedArray™ which will allow for real-time detection of positive magnitude events. Monitoring can be based on an existing 25+ square mile BuriedArray™ to provide high resolution, real-time event locations or deployed using specifically designed sparse arrays over areas of 10,000 square miles and greater. Event resolution from this service can be 10x better or more than currently available from USGS/NRCan networks, helping to accurately pinpoint and demonstrate the safety of subsurface treatment activity. Real time event alerts and weekly reporting of activity is also provided as part of the service.
“The oil and gas industry recognizes the need to remain good stewards of our environment and as such, are proactive in developing technologies and practices that ensure responsible oversight,” said Peter Duncan, PhD. “This workshop underscores the industry’s commitment to understanding the impact of injection activity. Health, safety and environmental concerns are paramount in all exploration and production operations.”
The Induced Seismicity Workshop will bring together reservoir, drilling and completion engineers, geologists, geophysicists, geomechanicists and seismologists in an effort to discuss issues associated with injection activities. Ultimately, the workshop aims to promote a better understanding of any relationship between fracturing activities and seismic events and also provide a foundation for developing injection programs designed to minimize, mitigate and avoid any unacceptable seismicity while maintaining safe, environmentally friendly and cost-effective development of hydrocarbon resources.
