2010 Gas Shales Summit

2010 Gas Shales Summit

Hydraulic Fracturing & the Environment

June 2-3, 2010 | Marriott Houston West Loop by the Galleria

Dear Colleague

Please join me at a summit meeting on the most important issue facing our industry.

Shale gas is the hottest play in the energy business and the key to greater use of natural gas and less dependence on foreign oil supplies. Yet just when technology has made unconventional gas commercially feasible, its continued development is being challenged. And in particular, the process of hydraulic fracturing (frac'ing or fracking).

It is time for industry leaders, environmental scientists, government regulators and policy makers to sit down for a summit meeting - two days of frank and detailed discussion of all the issues.

That's why I am teaming with Steve Dixon, executive vice president and COO of Chesapeake Energy Corporation to chair the 9th Annual Gas Shales Summit in Houston, June 2-3.

Steve and I will be joined by other industry thought leaders including executives from Apache, Devon Energy and Petrohawk, scientists from universities, research institutes and consulting firms, regulators from the Environmental Protection Agency and Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, and experts from the Environmental Defense Fund, USA Club of Rome and Citizens for Affordable Energy.

I hope you will join me in June for an exciting two days of discussion about the most important energy issue of our time.

Sincerely,
Peter M. Duncan
President and CEO, MicroSeismic, Inc.

Texas Gubernatorial Candidate Bill White to Keynote Summit
Regulatory Issues: State-v-Federal Authority/Responsibility

Gregory Kallenberg
Director of Haynesville

Haynesville: A Nation's Hunt for Energy

Don't miss the screening of "Haynesville: A Nation's Hunt for Energy" at the 2010 Gas Shales Summit.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the film's director, Gregory Kallenberg.

"Haynesville takes place in the Louisiana backwoods, and follows the momentous discovery of the largest natural gas field in the United States (and maybe the world). It explores the current energy situation and what something the scale of the Haynesville (170 trillion cubic feet or the equivalent of 28 billion barrels of oil) could mean to the United States’ energy picture. In a never-seen-before on-screen discussion, environmentalists, academics and oil and gas industry folks hash out the idea of trying to find cleaner energy sources and how this natural gas could possibly help provide an energy answer."

Bruce Nilles

National Coal Campaign Director
Bruce joined the Sierra Club in 2002 and currently directs its National Coal Campaign, the largest component of Sierra Club's new Climate Recovery Campaign. The national coal campaign is working to reduce America's over reliance on coal, slash coal's contribution to global warming and other pollution woes, end destructive mining, and secure massive investments in clean energy alternatives. Bruce previously worked as a staff attorney for Earthjustice's San Francisco office, and during the Clinton Administration as Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice's Environment and Natural Resources Division in Washington D.C. He received his J.D. and B.S. degrees from the University of Wisconsin.

David Holt

President of Consumer Energy Alliance
The Consumer Energy Alliance was formed to help support the thoughtful utilization of all domestic energy resources to improve domestic energy security and reduce consumer prices. The mission of the Consumer Energy Alliance is to improve consumer understanding of our nation's energy security, including the need to reduce reliance on imported oil and natural gas, maintain reasonable energy prices for consumers, and continue efforts to diversify our energy resources. Consumer Energy Alliance now has almost 120 consumer and energy organizations and more than 170,000 consumer advocates as part of its Alliance. Through its various activities, CEA works to continue to expand dialogue and develop joint messaging among the energy and consuming sectors.
