SURFACE MONITORING – FracStar® Service
Our FracStar® service can monitor multiple wells simultaneously, giving operators valuable data they can use to optimize their stimulation program.
MSI's FracStar® surface monitoring service uses a temporary surface-located geophone array to effectively monitor long laterals and pad drilling over a large area.
The easily-deployed FracStar® service employs a radial array of geophone strings. Arrays are customized for your specific area of interest, ensuring the highest quality dataset is obtained. This data is processed with MSI's PSET® processing technology, which locates microseismic activity in the zone of interest with a high level of accuracy, and in real time.
The combined effect of the FracStar® array's large 2D aperture and PSET®-based microseismic monitoring provides vital information about how the stimulation-induced fractures interact with a reservoir's natural fracture networks. This insight allows operators to reduce their completion costs quickly, while increasing their per-well recovery from subsequent wells in the area.
Additional FracStar® Surface Monitoring Benefits
Other benefits of the FracStar® service include:
- A monitoring well is not required
- Consistent high-accuracy event location in the x, y, and z directions over the entire monitored volume
- Cost-effective surface monitoring of both long single laterals and multi-well pads
- Rapid array deployment and minimal surface disruption during acquisition
- Source mechanism analysis for individual event fracture characterization
FracStar® arrays have been successfully deployed in most of North America's active unconventional resource plays. Plans are also underway to extend this service into the offshore arena in order to monitor both early-stage completion and stimulation activities and also long-term fluid movement during production.
